It's Official! This morning [16 April 2014] Sarah White, a nurse practitioner and 15 Now activist, filed the language of a charter amendment (like a ballot initiative but stronger) for a $15/hr minimum wage in Seattle.
The VOTE15 campaign manager, Jess Spear, said, “Over 100,000 workers in Seattle – one quarter of the workers in this city – stand to be lifted out of poverty by the passage of a $15 an hour minimum wage.” "Big business - Washington Restaurant Association, Starbucks, Alaska Airlines, Microsoft, and others - has launched an assault on the movement for 15 in Seattle. Working people need to defend against this invasion of corporate cash. " "If the city council does not pass a strong ordinance that covers all workers without needless delay or carve outs, then this charter amendment will serve as our safety net." Getting the amendment on the ballot will require 50,000 signatures. Please sign up to volunteer help collect signatures at Vote15.org. Please donate to the VOTE15 campaign today.
