Seattle School District comprises of over 100 facilities, and with over 8 million square feet of cleaning area, 730+ acres of real property landscape to maintain, an average of almost 27,000 meals a day to serve to Seattle's school children, and to provide safety and security, it takes dedicated personnel to accomplish all that and more. Local 609 members fill positions in the Custodial Services, Food Services, Grounds Keeping Services, Environmental Services, and Safety and Security to professionally and proudly accomplish those tasks.
Local 609 members, on a daily basis, strive for excellence by participating in the IUOE Operating Engineers Apprenticeship & Journey Level Upgrade Program. This program provides Custodial Services, Grounds Department, and Environmental Services personnel with "state-of-the-art" training and is the only such program the Seattle School District is signatory to.
