Local 609, in Seattle, is the oldest and largest union local representing only classified (non-teaching) employees of K-12 public schools in Washington State. Organized in 1941, it has been actively involved in advocating and collectively bargaining on behalf of classified employees since being officially certified in 1968. This program provides Custodial Services, Grounds Department, and Environmental Services personnel with "state-of-the-art" training and is the only such program the Seattle School District is signatory to.
